Closer than you think
From the top of a dune, Dubai feels a world away. In reality, the nearest red dunes are under an hour’s drive from the city. Most visitors never ask where they are going until they are there — but knowing the area helps you choose the right tour.
The main desert safari areas
- Al Badayer: tall red dunes along the Dubai–Hatta road, popular for dune bashing, buggies and quads. This is where the Wild Adventures base is.
- Lahbab: wide red dunes south-east of the city, often used for evening safaris and camps.
- Al Awir: closer to the city, with smaller dunes, good for short trips.
Drive times from central Dubai are roughly 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic and your hotel.
How do you get there?
Most desert safari tours in Dubai include a 4×4 pickup from your hotel or home. If you are driving a buggy, quad or dirt bike, you can also come straight to the base and ride from there.
What you find at the Wild Adventures base
Our base at Al Badayer is set up for riders: vehicle storage with personal lockers, a café, a car wash, and BBQ equipment we can deliver into the dunes. It is the starting point for our dune buggy, quad biking and dirt bike rides.
Which area should you choose?
